Bleacher Talk

Yesterday was round two of bleacher butt for this mom.  My sons have back-to-back swimming lessons this summer so it’s two hours of sit-stretch-shift around on the hard metal benches.

A few moms and I chatted about how our summers were going.  How we’re amazed at how our children can be best buddies one minute and the next–mortal enemies.  I have to admit that it did my heart good to hear that other moms are also dealing with siblings fighting this summer.  K.’s mom said, “Even in the car, K. snips to her younger sister: ‘Don’t look out my window.  It’s MY window!!'”  I think all moms’ eyebrows arched skyward and we all drew a collective breath and shook our heads side-to-side.  Perhaps it was a moment of flashback for each of us as if we  were recalling our own pre-teen moments.

And so, although spending two hours on the bleachers is not my ideal way to spend a summer morning, I do have to say that the bleacher talk amongst mothers can be good for the soul.
